101 Great Gadgets

I love working with type and for this commission I was asked whether I could design something that utilised the heading of the cover art here. I wanted to create something which had depth and also wanted to make sure the type had a nice flowing feel to it so I created something from scratch. One of the specs of the brief was to ensure there were no direct references to gadgets. I also got to do some lovely traditional airbrushing and pencil renderings in the making of this piece. I was also asked to keep that slightly retro feel to the piece.

This was one of my initial 3D renderings that I created from my design concept. The design itself went through many incarnations before arriving at the final design. The brief was to make something that flowed well and that had a totally bespoke feel to it. I thought it would be nice to animate this for possible online use which the client was very pleased with. I love to use a juxtaposition of old with the new and for this project we used mixed media which also included some pencil renderings and airbrushed work. In total the project took me around a week to execute from start to finish.
